ALLIE BROSH IS STILL ALIVE

THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY

Allie Brosh: I’m sorry you felt like nothing and then like angry crap, but I am very happy you’re still around at all.

Les Discables

I love seeing people make crossovers combining Les Mis and Night Watch

because it’s like watching people find a recipe for banana bread

and decide what’s really missing are a couple pieces of dried banana

and then baking the banana bread into the likeness of a banana

In short it’s pretty amusing

(Les Mis = bananas in this analogy)

Some ideas are just so irredeemably stupid in concept that “drawing from reference” as opposed to “doodling whatever the heck thing I think it maybe looks like” doesn’t help them look less stupid, it only cleans up the lines.

This is one of those.

Preemptive Marvel Cinematic Universe Civil War Fix-It of Doom

The following is partially tehhumi’s fault, I just want to say that now.

In summary: MCU is actually the future of Marvel 1602, because MCU doesn’t always match up with the comics. This means the Civil War doesn’t have to happen how it did in the comics. Also, everything Neil Gaiman has ever written has taken place in the same multiverse.

NOT a fic.

ORIGIN STORY TIME

I can remember a distinct moment when I’d recently watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and I turned to my sister and asked,

“Do you ever wonder what happens after? If after the end of the movie, there’s more story?”

From my memory, she said something like,

“I’d never really thought about it“

and then started pondering like she had to make up for lost time.

At the time this happened, I’m pretty sure we’d been having deep discussions about Teen Titans for years, so it isn’t really a definitive origin story, but it would definitely come up if fandom was something that got flashback montages.

Share your origin stories?

Which musical does this sound like it’s from to you?

How can people have no feelings?
How can they ignore their friends?
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no

And especially people
Who care about strangers
Who care about evil
And social injustice
Do you only care about the bleeding crowd?
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend…

It’s really Easy to be Hard from Hair, but don’t the lyrics make it sound a little like it could be something unfortunately left out of Les Mis?

It would probably have to be sung by Marius: “Guys why can’t you understand how important my love at first sight is? Why don’t you care about my lonely soul feeeeelings?”

The above picture is a reproduction of the woodcut Dürer’s Rhinoceros.
The woodcut was made in 1515, after Dürer recieved a sketch and a description of the first rhino to be seen in Europe in several hundred years.
During the intervening time, the European public had begun to regard rhinos as a bit unlikely, maybe about as likely to really exist as unicorns were (although, unicorns did make into Linnaean classification).
At any rate, the above picture was regarded as a totally realistic depiction of a rhino up through the 1800s.
Yep. There were several hundred years in which rhinos were thought by Euopeans to be covered in ornately patterned plate armor. Seriously, it looks like the sort of animal a Tolkien type dwarf would want to ride into battle, how awesome is that?
